Monday 12th November

Breakfast at 7am and on the road early for a long drive. Aim was to head south and get to Jalpan. We stopped on the way to have a look at a particularly interesting road cut with all sorts of nice things on it.

Had quite nice lunch in a fairly forgettable town, then carried on a bit. We went off piste for some while down a dirt track road that started off promising but ended up not so good. Some nice orchids in a tree where we turned around to go back, but that was about it.

We got to Jalpan around 4ish and checked in to our Hotel - Misión Jalpan. Lovely old colonial building converted into a nice hotel and, at 550 pesos, good value. I’ve stayed there twice before - good restaurant on site, too, which is where we had dinner. It had started to rain quite heavily so exploring town wasn’t an option.
